By Pete and Tan from Artzone Travels

Hi, we’re Pete and Tan from Artzone Travels Off-Grid Ventures. As Lanavan ambassadors, we’re excited to share a fortnightly series called ‘Give Me Five.’ As the name suggests, we’ll provide five tips we’ve learned over decades of traveling across Australia’s remote and off-grid locations in our caravans. We’re not just adventurers—we’re passionate storytellers eager to share our experiences, creativity, and the wisdom we’ve gained along the way.
This week, we’ll discuss Five tips for Off-grid Caravan Power while traveling in a caravan across Australia.
Welcome to the Red Centre!
Alice Springs is more than just a place to fuel up or grab supplies — it’s got a rugged charm, deep culture, and some of the most unique experiences in Australia. Whether you’re just passing through or spending a few days, here are five things you absolutely shouldn’t miss.
The Alice Springs Telegraph Station is where the town began, built in 1872 as part of the overland telegraph line linking Australia to the rest of the world. Set among the river gums, the beautifully persevered stone buildings take you back to the days of Morse Code.

The West Macs are jaw-dropping — think ancient gorges, red cliffs and waterholes perfect for a dip. Great for a day trip or extend the adventure if you’re set up to camp. The colours at sunrise and sunset? Unforgettable.
Some top spots to explore:
Simpsons Gap
Standley Chasm
Ormiston Gorge

Ever wondered how people in the most remote parts of the country get emergency medical care? This museum tells that story.
Interactive exhibits, restored aircraft and a short film bring the history and ongoing role of the Flying Doctor to life.
It’s an easy stop in town — and a surprisingly moving one.

You’ll get sweeping views over the town and the MacDonnell Ranges. It’s also home to the war memorial, and a great place to pause and reflect.
Best time to go? Just before sunset — you’ll see the outback glow in all its glory.

Alice is a major hub for Aboriginal art, and it’s everywhere — in galleries, on walls, and woven through local stories.

Spend some time here and you’ll walk away with a deeper appreciation of the culture and connection to country that runs through Central Australia.

There are several caravan parks in town — including Heritage Caravan Park, BIG4 MacDonnell Range Holiday Park.
We stayed at a private property listed on Landavan, a community that lets you travel more.
It gave us space, security, and a genuine atmosphere. Our hosts Charmaine and Rory were fantastic and couldn’t do enough for us.
They told us what to see and they even took us up to their secret spot to watch a truly awesome out back sunset.
It’s well worth checking out Landavan website for unique stays like this one all over Australia. https://landavan.com.au

Every second Sunday, we release a new video exploring remote corners of Australia. We capture and share these cherished memories, hoping to ignite your own sense of wonder and inspire your travel plans.
Scan the QR Code with your smartphone or iPad to watch our latest YouTube video—it’s FREE and only notifies you when we upload something new.
