Why Landavan had to exist!

This is the story of how a few experiences

to us to create Landavan.

1. The Family Who Had to Turn Back Because of Costs 🥲

In 2021, while we were travelling during Covid, prices were climbing fast — accommodation jumping weekly and fuel hitting $2.60. 😅

I met a lovely family who’d spent years planning their big lap.
They saved hard, sacrificed together, and finally hit the road for the adventure they had dreamed of.

But weeks in, the rising accommodation costs completely blew their budget.
They’d created a spreadsheet to track everything and were terrified they wouldn’t afford to get home if they went too far.

They made the heartbreaking decision to turn around.
Their kids were devastated.

That moment stuck with me.

Caravan travel has always been the affordable Aussie family holiday… so why were families suddenly priced out?
It further solidified the idea of Landavan — travellers supporting travellers.

What if you could save a whole year of accommodation before you even left home?
What if families could protect their dream, no matter how much parks increase their fees?

2. A Family With an Autistic Child Deserved a Real Chance 💛

I met a beautiful family who wanted to do the big lap but were scared their autistic son might become overwhelmed and want to return home suddenly.

Because of that, they couldn’t rent their home out.
They needed his room set up exactly the same — his safe place — ready if they needed to dash back.

The pressure of paying a mortgage and travelling made it almost impossible.

And it made me think…

What if families like this could offer a spot to members while they travel — earning points for free accommodation in return?
That way they could keep their home as their backup, but still explore for longer.

This moment reminded me that travel isn’t one-size-fits-all.
Families have different needs, but they still deserve the chance to see Australia — safely, gently, and in their own time.

3. Pensioners Who Worked Their Whole Lives Deserve the Road Too 💛

I’ve met so many amazing retirees on the road — honestly, some of the loveliest (and funniest 😄) people.

Most had spent decades dreaming of this moment:
retire, hitch up the van, and finally explore our beautiful country.

But many didn’t want to rent their homes out.
Some had bad experiences, others needed their home kept ready for health appointments or family events.

Their home wasn’t “empty” — it was their base, their security, their peace of mind.

And again the idea strengthened…

What if they could offer a safe spot to fellow travellers and earn points for their own adventures?
A community where stories, driveways, and kindness are shared.

Retirees deserve freedom — not stress — after a lifetime of hard work.

4. Travellers Leave a Spot Behind… So Why Pay for Two? 🌏

I started noticing how many travellers were leaving a perfectly good spot back home — a driveway, paddock, side yard — while paying for accommodation elsewhere.

It made no sense.

Why are we paying for two places at once, when we’re only using one?

So many people offered us a spot when we were travelling, just out of kindness.
It made me realise something important:

Travellers are a different kind of soul — giving, open, and always ready to help.

What if that natural generosity could be turned into a community —
one where your unused space becomes a gift to someone else, and you earn free accommodation in return?

It just made sense.

5. Families Are Being Priced Out of Holidays 💸

As the cost of living rose, I saw more families struggling to afford a simple caravan holiday.

Caravan parks that used to be the cheap option now charge $150–$400 a night during school holidays.
Yes, they have jumping pillows and waterslides — but most regions already have incredible free nature, playgrounds, rivers, beaches, and adventures for kids.

For many Aussies, caravan travel used to be the affordable family getaway.
Now it’s often more expensive than going overseas.

So I kept building solutions:

Mates Base — so families can travel alongside another family.
Property swaps with friends or relatives — because so many parents want to support their kids’ travels.
⭐ And more ideas are still on the way.

Not everyone will fit every option, and that’s okay.
This community is about helping as many Aussies as possible see our country through the eyes of locals — and through the kindness of each other.

The Heart of It All

These five moments didn’t just shape Landavan —
they’re the reason it exists at all.

A community built on generosity.
A way to make travel affordable again.
A chance for families, retirees, and everyday Aussies to explore without the financial strain.
A network of people who genuinely care.

This is why Landavan matters.
And why this journey is just beginning.
