By Pete and Tan from Artzone Travels

Hi, we’re Pete and Tan from Artzone Travels Off-Grid Ventures. As Lanavan ambassadors, we’re excited to share a fortnightly series called ‘Give Me Five.’ As the name suggests, we’ll provide five tips we’ve learned over decades of traveling across Australia’s remote and off-grid locations in our caravans. We’re not just adventurers—we’re passionate storytellers eager to share our experiences, creativity, and the wisdom we’ve gained along the way.
This week, we’ll discuss Five tips for Free Camping while traveling in a caravan across Australia.
There’s a special kind of magic in waking up somewhere new every morning your home parked in a place where the sunrise paints the sky and the only sounds are the birds and the breeze. Travelling full-time in a caravan isn’t just for retirees or wanderers it’s a lifestyle that’s possible (and deeply rewarding) for almost anyone.
After years on the road exploring some of Australia’s most breathtaking regions, we’ve learned that full-time travel changes the way you see the world and yourself.
Here’s why everyone should experience it at least once.
When you live on the road, you set your own pace. No deadlines, no check-ins, no rush just open roads and endless possibilities. If you fall in love with a quiet beach or a shady bush camp, you can stay as long as you like. That kind of freedom is rare these days and once you taste it, you’ll never want to give it up.
Travelling full-time gives you the luxury of slowing down and really getting to know this incredible country. You’ll feel the red dust between your toes, swim in hidden gorges, and find outback towns most people never even hear about. From the turquoise shallows of the Ningaloo Coast to the ancient rock formations of Karijini and the wild beauty of the Kimberley, every region tells its own story. When your home has wheels, Australia truly becomes your backyard.

Caravan life has a way of bringing people together. Whether it’s a couple learning to work as a team, a family reconnecting over campfire dinners, or solo travellers forming friendships at a roadside stop the road has its own way of connecting us.
You share more stories, laugh more often, and realise that the best moments aren’t about where you are, but who you’re with.
Life on the road teaches you to appreciate the little things like a warm shower, a good sunset, or a strong coffee brewed off-grid. You quickly discover that you don’t need much to be happy. With fewer possessions and more experiences, you start to live more intentionally spending time doing what truly matters instead of collecting stuff you don’t need. That simplicity brings a kind of peace that’s hard to find anywhere else.

Even the most ordinary days become something special when you’re travelling full-time.
A grocery run might lead you through red dirt tracks or a local market full of friendly characters. A “quick stop” often turns into discovering a hidden swimming hole or a free camp with a view that takes your breath away. That unpredictability keeps life exciting and it reminds you how alive you really are.
Travelling full-time in a caravan isn’t just about seeing Australia it’s about rediscovering yourself and what truly matters. There will be challenges, flat tyres, weather events, long drives but there’s also incredible beauty, connection, and freedom.
For us at Artzone Travels, it’s been the most rewarding chapter of our lives. We’ve swapped the daily grind for endless horizons, and we wouldn’t trade it for anything.
If you’ve ever thought about taking the leap even for a few months our advice is simple: do it. You’ll see more, learn more, and feel more alive than you ever imagined.
